Replace invocations of R API functions with safe evaluation of R command. Force enable of graphics recording.

The following bugs are fixed:
 - Chain `ggplot` -> `points` -> `plot` disables graphics recording
 - Chain `plot` -> `ggplot` -> `points` breaks graphics device
 - Graphics panel gets stuck on large margins
